Project Background

At present, China has built six major inter-provincial power grids, namely the power grids of the South, Northwest, East China, Central China, North China and Northeast China. And AC and DC transmission lines of 500kV and above are mainly used. During the construction and expansion, to traverse various complex terrains is a known difficulty to face in both the early engineering and the later maintenance. In particular, how to solve the accuracy and efficiency of power line inspection has always been a major problem that plagues the power industry.

Project Background

On 18th August 2016, China Southern Power Grid Super High Voltage Company successfully completed their first power inspection using SureStar's E+RA LiDAR system. This flight was supported with kind effort by Zhuhai Helicopter Branch of China Southern Airlines Co. Ltd.

Project Background

E+AP LiDAR powerline inspection system combines a built-in wide-angle digital camera and environmental sensors to produce high-precision true-color point clouds of the transmission lines and towers plus everything else within the corridor. This allows the building of a comprehensive database for management and maintenance of the infrastructure.

The A-Pilot system has complete software support for route planning, system control & monitoring, pilot navigation, and data pre-processing software. The complete system can produce a high-precision point cloud from which accurate digital elevation models and topographic maps may be produced.
